Annual Blood Drive a Success

On February 11, Health Occupations students at the St. John Valley Technology Center participated in our twelfth annual American Red Cross blood drive.  For this event, students posted flyers around the area to get as many people as we could to participate.  At 7:00 a.m., students from the Health Occupations program arrived at SJVTC to help the Red Cross staff set up the equipment and supplies needed for the drive.

Early Childhood Students Attend National Workshop

On November 6, students from the Early Childhood Occupations program attended a workshop in Caribou, ME, entitled Weaving the Threads of Literacy.  This workshop was presented by the National Head Start Family Literacy Center, and the guest speaker was Kathryn Bell.

Seeking Projects for Students

A new school year has begun and students are hard at work.  Students enrolled in the Construction Trades program are putting the finishing touches on a 30' X 36' garage which they built from the ground up.  The students even did the survey work, and helped with the ground work and the pouring of the concrete slab.  They are now working on the finish items, having completed the framing, roofing, doors and windows over the past few weeks.  Finally, under the...

Students in the Jobs for Maine's Graduates program have been busy both inside and outside of the classroom.  The first few weeks were spent on getting-to-know-you activities and on completing interest inventories.  We focused a great deal on character development.  We discussed built-in controls, self esteem, bullying, and attitude.

Mothers around the Saint John Valley are members of MOMS club.  MOMS club stands for Moms Offering Moms Support.  This club includes stay-at-home mothers who enjoy support while raising their young children.

Early Childhood program students provide care to infants while moms interact with one another.  The students observe infant growth and development over time, comparing stages and differences unique to each infant.
