A New Batch of Welders

Eight students from the welding program at the St. John Valley Technology
Center recently became certified welders in multiple positions. These students traveled
to the State testing site at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor and all were
tested in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions – some for mig welding, some
for stick welding, and a couple for both types of welding. This American Welding
Society (AWS) certification confirms the students’ skill levels, and makes them more
employable – a goal of every program at the Tech Center. Students who earned their
certifications include: Alex Caron, Shane Levesque, Charles Nadeau and Zachary
Thibodeau, all of Fort Kent; Tyson Dubay of St. Francis; Eric Morin of St. David;
and Michael and Isaac DeMontigny of Frenchville. Two other students came close to
passing, and will re-take portions of the test at EMCC in the near future.
St. John Valley Technology Center has been serving students across the Valley
for 20 years. Students in every program can earn college credits and industry or state
certifications through their program. Every program provides training in fields in which
numerous jobs are available.
