Health Occupations Students earn awards at SkillsUSA
The State of Maine Annual SkillsUSA “Champions at Work” Conference & Competitions was held in Bangor on March 15 & 16, 2012. The Health Occupation students under the leadership and guidance of their instructor Marie May Chasse RN MSEd., competed in seven competitions. In the Nurse Assisting competitions Sarah Paradis won a Gold Medal, in the Health Occupations Professional Portfolio competitions Sarah Majka won a Gold Medal, and in the Basic Health Care Skills competitions Meghan Guerrette won a Silver Medal. Sarah Paradis and J. Riley Gagnon also won the SkillsUSA Statesmen Award. The two-day annual event allowed the students the opportunity to compete against other health occupation students in the state. The students competed in a variety of written tests and hands-on events. The St. John Valley was well represented by three very mature and hard working young ladies. The students were able to show the diversification of their skills and knowledge. The two Gold Medalists will be able to represent the St. John Valley Technology Center at the National SkillsUSA “Champions at Work” Conference & Competitions in Kansas City, MI on June 17-22, 2012. All year the students worked on community service projects and have done several fund raising events to pay for the costs related with this competition, thanks to all our supporters. The Health Knowledge Bowl team (Cassidy Ouellette, Morgan Dubois, Marissa Blier, and Kieanna Sirois) placed fourth, and J. Riley Gagnon placed fourth in the Medical Terminology competitions.
