CO-OP & ELO

Cooperative Education &
Extended Learning Opportunities
Co-Op.jpg

Our Cooperative Education (CO-OP) program provides opportunities for 11th and 12th grade students from Madawaska High School and Wisdom High School to participate in Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs) in community-based occupational training either as an extension of their current SJVTC program or in a career area not addressed by the programs at the SJVTC. Fort Kent Community High School students interested in ELOs pursue these opportunities through the CHS Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG) program.

Students in the CO-OP program spend part of each day at the SJVTC as well as on job sites where they explore and experience their career of interest by taking part in experience-based Internships or Job Shadow activities. In their SJVTC-based class sessions, students learn about workplace boundaries, receiving constructive feedback, emotional regulation at work, completing job applications, writing resumes and cover letters, SMART Goal-setting for employment and careers, effective workplace communication skills, and workplace policies, procedures and expectations. Students also work with the SJVTC CO-OP teacher to identify community-based training sites that will host them and meet their needs and interests while helping them gain valuable on-the-job training and experience. The CO-OP teacher works with each student in the program to complete an ELO Internship application and business/school agreement or a Job Shadow experience approval form and experience log.
